The Crafty Rooster

by Kurt Epps--The PubScout

It only makes sense that a pub in Conway, SC would have name like The Crafty Rooster. After all, the once-nationally ranked football team of Coastal Carolina is located in Conway, and they're called the Chanticleers.

Don't blame me. I didn't pick the name. And I suppose if the university of South Carolina goes as the Gamecocks, it's nothing new. But there is no question that Teal Nation affects lots of folks and businesses in this river town north of Myrtle Beach.

The Crafty Rooster (aka The Bird on Third) Beer Cheese Bomb provided our seasoned citizen group (which meets kind of monthly) with a comfortable setting, some very good food, a nice beer list and welcome shelter from a deluge the likes of which must have been witnessed by Noah.

Our group consists of mostly Jersey transplants (with one Pennsy person thrown in for good measure) and almost all men, hence the name Jersey Guys and a Gal. We gather regularly to celebrate each other and life itself with good food, good grog and good company.

As gathering places go, The Crafty Rooster is a very comfortable pub, far more spacious than its exterior might suggest, and that's NOT including an entire event room next door accessible via a walkthrough.

A large oval bar is at the back and individual seating is at the sides and towards the front. Our group had a nice table reserved for us with an exceptional server named Brooklyn. She was both friendly and efficient, and her personality augmented our visit.

Everyone in the group spoke very highly of the food they ordered, which came out pretty promptly after ordering. My Beer Cheese Bomb rivaled any Philly Cheesesteak I've ever had, and the Airbrush Hazy IPA that accompanied it worked exceptionally well.

Prices were very reasonable and the value for our dollars was high. We will definitely return to The Bird on Third as a meetup place.

But only if they promise to have Brooklyn serve us.

Cheers!
