You may not know where you'll be this coming Saturday, February 6.
But I know where I'll be.
At TapTime in Ocean Isle Beach.
And not just because I want to be.
But because I'm required to be.
You see, when Keith and Christa, TapTime's owners, throw a party, they pull out all the stops. With their first-ever Mardi Gras Party last year, they set a high bar for the Second Annual Mardi Party.
New Orleans-based beer, party masks, and even a genuine NOLA-made Louisiana King Cake--the kind with a bite-sized plastic baby hidden inside. And, according to tradition, whoever gets the piece of cake with that baby in it gets to reign supreme for a year.
Last year, that lucky guy was me. And that means I have to provide the King Cake and accoutrements this year, before I abdicate and hand over my crown.
Considering last year's party was a blowout blast (not to mention it being the harbinger of the Covid Pandemic which struck shortly after), this year's party and King should have a brighter domain to rule before the year's out.
All I had to do was tell my subjects to wear masks and stock up on toilet paper ( though I still don't get THAT whole thing ).
Anyway, seating is limited, and with Amelia's next door ready, willing and able to deliver NOLA delicacies like Shrimp Etouffé right to your seat, it's a good idea to get there before the 6 PM start time.
I'll be there early, of course, to fulfill one of my last kingly duties by sampling the beer to insure that its quality is in keeping with my high standards for my subjects.
Oh, and though there will be "beads" there, if you catch a strand, especially if you're a fella, please leave your top on. Last year, Dave thought he really WAS in New Orleans. And while he did get a rousing round of applause from a few twisted souls, they will not be in attendance this year, as their time in the Home for the Mentally Depraved is not up.
Look for me. I'll be the one with the crown on, although I had to replace that tiara Keith gave me with a more "kingly" crown.
And while I am fully acquainted with the old saying:"Uneasy is the head that wears the crown," I won't be uneasy in the least.
But I will be Big Easy.
Hope to see you there!
Cheers!
