Rubbing it in...?
Here's a quick news piece about a Jersey brewery that made a beer dedicated to retiring NY Giant Eli Manning.
I think the guy gave Giants fans all he had, and made some indelible memories for them in the process. So the honor, IMHO, is richly deserved.
But consider this: the beer style is an NEIPA, which means a New England IPA, and I'm sensing some good-natured ribbing in that choice.
I can recall my man Shaun Clancy banning all of Sam Adams' beers from his iconic bar in NYC when the Giants first played the Pats in the Superbowl. It wasn't a surprising move considering it was from the Irish guy who bans the singing of Danny Boy in his classic Irish pub.
Although my top-secret bucket list includes being the first guy to get Shaun's permission to do it. I suspect we'll both have to be completely "in our cups" for that to occur, though.
Of course, after the Giants won--with Eli winning the MVP--Shaun was gracious enough to invite Jim Koch himself to run an 18-tap takeover at Foley's Pub. To his credit, Koch brought in some of the finest beers produced at his Boston brewery, and the place was both packed and grateful. It was a very memorable night which I was proud and happy to be a part of.
But let's see if Eli's beer interests the right people.
How epic would it be to get a picture of Jim Koch drinking an ELIte Tribute?
Or Tom Brady...with Eli?
Cheers!
