Of Books and Covers
You all know the axiom. And proof of its accuracy abounds, often where you don't expect it.
Have a seat. Because this post is NOT about beer. Yet it is about a place that is a gem that sparkles from the inside if not the outside. And part of the PubScout's mission is finding places where good people can enjoy a good experience, even if it's not always about the beer.
The name of this place is Dawg House Grill Too. You read that correctly. It's less than a half mile from my front door and it's already a favorite, although I've only been there twice--both times for breakfast.
On "normal" days, I don't eat a big breakfast. But when I go "out" for breakfast, especially with friends, I want a BREAKFAST. And this place serves BREAKFAST. Check out that menu.
I had the Big Dawg Omelette (above), and it is exactly what it implies. Not only that, it's for those Big Dawgs who want a BREAKFAST. So good--and so filling-- was mine, that i didn't need to eat again that day until after 7 PM. And their list of Specialty Omelettes offers a wide variety of choices, like the Veggie Omelette below.
In addition to having specialty coffees available--which they will grind for you to take home (hint: opt for the Gingerbread)-- it is the staff, I think, that makes the place. The attitude and friendliness of our hostess made us feel immediately comfortable.
Our server Mel (below) was as pleasant, accommodating and efficient as anyone could have been. That she was possessed of a winning personality, a charming southern accent and a steel-trap mind able to joust with the best challenges we could muster added to her charm, as well as the place's appeal. And she didn't say, "Bless your heart" once to us. (In case you didn't know, that's Southern for something akin to "You're a sphincter.")
She made us feel like we were part of her family...a part she was happy to see, not one she wanted to see leave. Even with her "Dog Mom" hat on, her beauty stemmed from her personality, which, ironically, exuded the same genuine charm as the place itself. The exceptional food that came out of the kitchen only added to the experience.
The place serves lunch and dinner, too, and though we haven't had the chance to do dinner, people we know rave about it, so we'll definitely have to try it. Visit their website to check out those offerings.
So there's no beer here. In fact, there's nothing fancy at the Dawg House Too in either its exterior or interior appeal. So you might be tempted to drive right by it.
But that would be a mistake.
Because, you know, Books and Covers.
And Mel.
Cheers!
