Tilted Kilt to Take Over Uno's
I've been sitting on some big news for a few days now. And I've heard through various channels that the news is out, so before it becomes "old" news, here's the deal.
Uno's in Metuchen will be closing, and the facility will be taken over by a Tilted Kilt. Some reports have the takeover occurring by December 1, but they have not been corroborated.
Of course, the big question is whether the new TK ownership will keep the brewing operation alive there. For The PubScout's money, it would be a wise move, considering the following Brewer Mike Sella has created in his fifteen-year tenure. It would seem that being the only Tilted Kilt to have its own brewery and beer would be a unique feather in TK's cap--if the servers even wear caps.
Still, Uno's had that distinction to promote and rarely gave that aspect much attention publicly. Any publicity generated for Uno's Brewing was locally generated. And Uno's had something like 160 Restaurants around the world, but only one was producing its own excellent beer.
Tilted Kilt also sells its own brand of beer, but it is contract brewed elsewhere. It would be a disservice to all those beer lovers who have come to Uno's mainly for its beers and beer events to snuff that out. Plus, the cost of doing so might be prohibitive.
But when the corporate numbers crunchers get together, anything can happen. Here's hoping the new owners of the Tilted Kilt continue their well-known offerings of good beer, good food and a good atmosphere. Putting their own housemade beers on tap would only enhance that reputation.
Stay tuned.
The PubScout will share what he can, when he can.
Cheers!
