Beer Today, Gone Tomorrow?
My youngest son was working on the last day of his summer job in New Brunswick yesterday, and his assignment took him down George St. to The State Theatre. As he passed, he noted the relatively new establishment called the World of Beer on one corner. We had quaffed together in there on occasion, usually with a contingent of wrestling coaches.
His assignment took him about a half hour. On his way back out George St., however, the World of Beer was gone.
Kaput.
No more.
In its place was a new sign over the door which said Hub City Brew House.
How quickly things can change in the beer business. WOB was a destination that, by all accounts, was doing pretty well. It offered a wide selection of beer and acceptable pub food. It was usually pretty crowded, too.
WOB is, of course, a franchise operation. But apparently the business has changed hands--or at least undergone a major change of direction and possibly ownership. I will investigate and report further.
Beer Guru Gary Rosen just recently posted an event he was hosting at WOB in October--one which I planned to attend. Whether the event is still on or not remains to be seen, but if it's on, it will definitely not be at the World of Beer.
Hub City Brew House does not, as yet, have a website that I can locate. But stay tuned.
Because the world of beer is a big one.
And apparently, a very fluid one. ( Pardon the pun.)
Cheers!
